Bohemia Interactive have announced that their military sim Arma 3 has managed to shift 3 million copies since its release in 2013. While this milestone along is cause enough for celebration, Bohemia Interactive shared some of their plans for upcoming DLC.

It's become something of a yearly tradition to share our plans for Arma 3 via a quick retrospective of progress, and a look ahead at the work in front of us. Although 2017’s no exception - it's once again our pleasure to present our development, with a particular focus on the upcoming Jets DLC - this year is extra special, as we celebrate passing the 3 million milestone for the Arma 3 playerbase.

Jay Crowe, Arma 3 Creative Director

Bohemia has released a video looking back on the last 4 years of Arma 3, as well as a sneak peek of the upcoming Jets DLC, which adds three new fighter jets and a new Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle to the popular military sim. We will go through the biggest additions below, so watch the video if you want to hear and see the all the details!

Bohemia's Jay Crowe gave a shoutout to the community's content creators using their talent to develop new player-made content to keep the game fresh. Recently, the developer held a Machinima contest for Arma 3, asking fans of the game to give their exploits in the game a cinematic spin. Go here to see bits and pieces of the winning videos.

Crowe then talks about the upcoming Jets DLC, giving us a clearer idea of the new (heavily weaponized) toys players can expect to tinker with once the DLC's out.

Jets DLC is a package of premium aircraft supported by a free platform update for everyone. It's also the first DLC we've worked on in partnership with a third-party developer: Brave Zero One Studios.
Bravo Zero One (or B01) should probably ring a bell if you're involved in the Arma community since this studio is led by Make Arma Not War winner Joshua "Saul" Carpenter.
The Jets DLC will be accompanied by a free platform update introducing a sensor overhaul to enhance targeting, an improved fixed-wing damage model by extending the number of hitpoints and damage effects, dynamic vehicle loadouts, and various other jet-related improvements.
The release of the Jets DLC is scheduled for May of this year, Bohemia Interactive are opening the gates early for testing on Arma 3's Dev-Branch in the coming few weeks. To participate in the public test you'll need to preorder the Jets DLC from Bohemia's Store at 10% off, bringing the total cost of the DLC to $11.99 (or your regional equivalent).

In addition to the aforementioned DLC, Bohemia Interactive has shared their roadmap for 2017. Coinciding with the franchise's 16th anniversary this year, Bohemia is releasing the free Malden DLC to mark the occasion. This DLC includes a "reimagining" of Malden terrain found in the original Arma.

This update will come with a new multiplayer mode called 'Combat Patrol'. This mode is different from the long-form multiplayer modes that require a major time investment to complete. Combat Patrol is the mode to go to if you want a more straightforward game mode with an emphasis on action.

Coming up in the Q3 of 2017 is the Orange DLC. What's in this DLC is anyone's guess at this point, but Bohemia promises that this DLC will explore "an interesting and unique perspective on the battlefield". This DLC will include new vehicles, new gear, new decorative objects, a small campaign and new Showcase and Challenge scenarios. Coming in Q4 of 2017 is the Tac-Ops DLC. This DLC adds new 'tactical operations' to Arma 3. These highly replayable missions need you to think on your feet to survive these challenging missions.

The final DLC discussed is called Tanks and is scheduled to release in Q1 of 2018 and adds in, you've guessed it, 3 new tanks to use during missions. This update will also come with a free update implementing new (unannounced) features to the game's vehicle mechanics.

If you want all the content mentioned above you can purchase the Arma DLC Bundle that contains all the DLC mentioned in this article at a cheaper price than what you'd pay for buying them all separately, bringing the total cost to $24.99. You can go here to purchase the bundle directly from Bohemia, or you can go here to grab it on Steam.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
