Rock Band 4 is getting a content update in March including new items and a cameo appearance by the world’s most dangerous spy, Sterling Archer. What could have compelled Electronic Arts to include the titular character from FXX’s hit adult cartoon in their game? The addition of the song “Danger Zone”, which is part of a long-running gag on Archer.

Kenny Loggins’ hit song “Danger Zone” will be added to the Rock Band DLC Music Library for players to strum along to with the March 16th update. Along with the iconic song will come the inclusion of Sterling Archer as the frontman for the song’s performance. Turns out the Rock Band team is a huge fan of the show Archer and couldn’t resist the opportunity to keep the shows “Danger Zone” joke running off air.

Rock Band Product Manager, Daniel Sussman explains on the PlayStation blog,

When we received word that the Kenny Loggins mega-hit was coming to the Rock Band DLC Music Library, our thoughts immediately went to Archer. We’re big fans of the show. . .So we reached out to the good folks at FXX and Floyd County Productions to see if they’d like to do something special for Rock Band and Archer fans and they jumped at the chance.
The game version of Archer is styled after the 2D, cel-shaded animation from the show instead of the usual 3D characters Rock Band typically uses. This required the Rock Band art team to create a custom cel-shader that’s used just for this character. A traditional 3D model was considered for the Archer cameo, but in the end, a style true to the FXX show was decided upon as the best option.

The March 16th Rock Band 4 update will include a whole slew of new content in addition to the song “Danger Zone” and a cameo performance by Sterling Archer. It will also bring new punk rock outfits to the Rock Store. Mass Effect: Andromeda themed content will be added as well, such as a playable Normandy bass and N7 armor inspired costumes.
