Apocalypse Now, the 1979 movie about the Vietnam War, has just gotten a Kickstarter campaign in order to adapt the film into a video game. The Kickstarter comes from famed director Francis Ford Coppola, who is seeking the help of backers in order to fund the project's $900,000 minimum goal.

If successful, the game will be directed by Montgomery Markland (producer of Wasteland 2), produced by Lawerence Liberty, and written by Rob Auten (known for Gears of War: Judgement). The Kickstarter page also boasts that creators, designers, directors, writers, and producers from games like Fallout New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, The Witcher, Neverwinter Nights 2, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Everquest, PlanetSide, Star Wars Galaxies, DC Universe Online and many more will be working on the game as well.

Markland is also notable for leading two extremely successful Kickstarter campaigns prior to this, the aforementioned Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera with InXile.

According to the Kickstarter, the game is an "immersive, psychedelic horror RPG", and is set to release sometime in October 2020. There are 14 backing tiers, ranging from $25 for the digital version of the game, $225 for a Collector's Edition Box, beta access, as well as books related to the series. The final tier maxes out at $10,000, and includes rewards such as legitimate props from the Apocalypse Now movie, inclusion as an NPC, a weekly conference call with the director, dog tags, maps, and a host of other items.

Stretch Goals are as follows:

In a press statement for the launch of the funding campaign, Coppola said, "Forty years ago, I set out to make a personal art picture that could hopefully influence generations of viewers for years to come. Today, I'm joined by new daredevils, a team who want to make an interactive version of Apocalypse Now, where you are Captain Benjamin Willard amidst the harsh backdrop of the Vietnam War. I've been watching videogames grow into a meaningful way to tell stories, and I'm excited to explore the possibilities for Apocalypse Now with a new platform and a new generation."

A teaser trailer is set to be uploaded exactly one week from the time of writing, on February 1, 2017.
