Update: The Apex Legends account reset bug has been resolved by Respawn Entertainment. A submission on the /r/ApexLegends subreddit explains the situation. Players were unintentionally moved to servers that didn't properly save their account data, causing a loss of progression. Any progress made up until the errant patch is safe, but progress after the fact has been rolled back. As for purchased currency, it will be rolled back to its original values.

An Apex Legends account reset bug is causing players to lose progress — a lot of progress. Reports of this issue began to be collected in the /r/ApexLegends subreddit in a single megathread. Players were stating that they were having weeks or even months worth of gameplay effectively rolled back to zero; one player noted that his account had gone from Level 85 to Level 0 in the blink of an eye.
It didn't take long for Respawn Entertainment to get wind of the Apex Legends account reset bug. A subsequent thread posted to the /r/ApexLegends subreddit stated that the loss of progression following Apex Legends Update 4.3 is a known issue and that the company is currently working on a fix.
At first, Respawn Entertainment had advised players not to craft anything and to hold back on playing the game for a bit. The problem must have been a little more complex than an easy server-side fix as the devs decided to take the game offline to fix this problem before it does any more damage to the hard work of players around the world.
The difficult question that has yet to be answered is how exactly Respawn Entertainment is going to resolve the Apex Legends account reset bug. The easiest solution is to roll back any progress made since the bug took effect, but that would mean that players would lose any progress they had made in the intervening time along with any loot they may have gained from opened Apex Packs. There would also be an issue with purchase history — what if a player had purchased Apex Packs after the patch was applied?
A more complex solution would involve fixing the bug and somehow retaining the progress and loot that players have earned while simultaneously restoring anyone who has had their progress negatively affected by this bug. This may be possible, but it would probably take a good bit more work and either exacerbate downtime or leave a number of players in the lurch when the servers come back online. With over 50 million people and counting playing Apex Legends, this could be a lot of work indeed.
