One new feature announced for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the ability to auto-save the player's game. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with this new feature. Mr. Resetti, a long-time worker at the Reset Surveillance Center, will be jobless in the new game.

Progress is cruel

Mr. Resetti first appeared in the original Japan-only Animal Crossing for the Nintendo 64 in 2001. However, some players may have never seen him appear in the main games. Mr. Resetti acted as a form of deterrent for players who would reset their game in order to save scum, such as if Crazy Redd sold you a fake painting and you want your money back. Shortly after players load their game, Mr. Resetti would pop up out of the ground give the players a stern talking-to about resetting. He seems like a real hothead, but he's actually a decent guy.

In an interview with Mashable, Aya Kyogoku, the project head for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, spoke about the newest title's auto-save function and its implications for Mr. Resetti. "I think this will be a positive thing for the player, because in New Horizons you can stop playing in the middle of your game and it'll still save," says Kyogoku. "But unfortunately because there's no necessity to reset the game or reset button on the Switch, Mr. Resetti had a hard time. He was laid off from his position."

Fortunately for those Mr. Resetti fans out there, Kyogoku also reported that they believe Mr. Resetti is looking for a new job. Presumably, we'll get to see our old mole "friend" taking on a new role in Animal Crossing New Horizons. We do know that the cute Shih Tzu Isabelle will be making a return appearance, as well.

Take a trip to paradise when Animal Crossing: New Horizons releases for the Nintendo Switch March 20, 2020.
