Welcome to another edition of Amiibo Watch, a collection of announcements about Nintendo's burgeoning toy business. We have a couple of big releases coming from the Big N, which means that there is a bunch of amiibo news to go with it.

We are just a week away from the release of Fire Emblem Fates, and that means that the uncommon Fire Emblem amiibos will come into play. Placing a Marth, Ike, Lucina, or Robin figure onto your New 3DS touchscreen (or regular 3DS adapter) will bring these characters in for a cameo appearance. You can use a figure once after every battle, and you'll be able to spare off with the legendary heroes after a third tap of their figure. If you emerge victorious, they'll join your stable of characters for use in the main game. This is a similar implementation to Codename S.T.E.A.M.'s amiibo support , and I'm almost bummed that there isn't a steampunk Abe Lincoln figure that can also be placed into Fire Emblem's medieval world.

Fire Emblem Fates Conquest 2Other Fire Emblem characters, such as the upcoming Roy and Corin Amiibo, are assumed to work with Fates in a similar way, but nothing is confirmed at this time.

What we do know is that every existing Amiibo will work with Pokken Tournament when it comes out on Marth March 18th. Their exact functionality has not been revealed at this time, but the official page states that they will unlock in-game items, meaning that it will most likely be similar to Hyrule Warriors. Pokemon specific amiibo will most likely have a specialized function, while other figures will unlock some generic reward as a small bonus. It's also worth noting that a Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card will come with the first printing of the game, which unlocks the new version of the genetic Pokemon right from the start, bypassing his normal unlock requirements.

That's it for this edition of the Amiibo Watch! Are you itching to tap your toys for Fire Emblem Fates and Pokken Tournament? Do you think Codename S.T.E.A.M. will be alluded to in the newest Fire Emblem game? Why do I want to play Fire Emblem as Abe Lincoln? Answer these questions and more in the comments below!
