Today, Microsoft unveiled the first episode of their ID@Xbox Game Pass series, a take on Nintendo's increasingly popular Direct formula. Expect this series of Publisher showcases to run semi-regularly as they introduce the hottest non-triple-A games coming to Game Pass.

The ID@Xbox program, which has been running for a few years now and has championed such hits as Cuphead, is introducing a handful of games that will be available at launch on Microsoft's Game Pass service. Today's fresh announcements are that Killer Queen Black, Outer Wilds, and Blazing Chrome will come to Game Pass and will be there from Day 1 of their release.

Following a quick montage of chaotic eight-player action-platformer Killer Queen Black, ID@Xbox's own Chris Charla and Sarah Conde began to run down the games.

Starting with Outer Wilds from Mobius and Annapurna, which they describe as "an exploration game about curiosity, roasting marshmallows, and unraveling the mysteries of the cosmos". In an interview with developers Alex Beachum and Loan Verneau, Outer Wilds is described as "an open-world mystery" where the player is killed and sent back in time every 22 minutes. Uncover the mystery of this world of "space archeology" as you carry nothing but your knowledge with you through each loop. The game - inspired by the idea of "camping in the woods and wanting to blast off in your ship and see the view from above" - has an aesthetic inspired by "1960's National Park ads and NASA" and features "physically simulated planets" that allow for cinematic cosmic events like eclipses to naturally happen. Check out this thrilling sci-fi game when it launches later this year.

Next up, a montage of gameplay from the following games:

  • Manchu's upcoming stylish roguelike Void Bastards
  • First-person dungeon-crawler RPG Operencia: The Stolen Sun
  • The nonsensical goat-in-a-shopping-cart game Supermarket Shriek
  • Swery's photographing-animals-in-the-Lake-District simulator The Good Life
  • And, finally, the game about outdrinking the Devil in Hell - Afterparty
All of these games will be playable at PAX East and available day one on Game Pass. Also, retweet the @XboxGamePass sweepstakes post for a chance to win one of four custom Xbox designs inspired by Outer Wilds, Void Bastards, Operencia, and Supermarket Shriek.

We then get an in-depth look at Night School Studio's Afterparty. This quirky and stylish game puts you in the shoes of recently-graduated best friends, Milo and Lola, who die and find themselves in Hell. The pair quickly discover a loophole to get them out of Hell: outdrink the Devil and you can return to Earth. Get drunk with demons and play ridiculous drinking games in Afterparty. The game's excellent sense of style and dry humor make it stand out as something you won't want to miss when it launches later this year.

Finally, Blazing Chrome from JoyMasher and The Arcade Crew is an arcade run-and-gun shooter unapologetically inspired by the likes of Metal Slug and Contra.
