Agony, the positively devilish game that has you exploring the depths of hell as a lost soul, will be releasing a new version of the game called Agony Unrated according to a news post on the game's Steam Community page.

If you're unfamiliar with this particular title, Agony is a game that can succinctly be described as a title that pushes the boundaries in nearly every respect. It takes a very perverse and twisted version of hell and places the player smack in the middle of terrible monstrosities that are both erotic and grotesque. While it had some promise as a title, the initial launch was plagued with instability and our review didn't look too kindly on it after its release. Another major issue of contention was that some of the game's content ended up being cut due to unspecified legal issues cited by the developer.

Whatever those issues may have been, a solution has come to pass. Madmind Studio is looking to release Agony Unrated, a version of the game that will restore all of the cut content and somehow avoid the legal issues that required them to remove certain elements of the game in the first place. Current owners of the game aren't going to be left out in the cold, either - the developers are currently in talks with Steam in trying to figure out how best to get a copy of this unrated edition to their customers. Two options that have been floated are providing it to current owners with a 99% discount or giving it to them as a free DLC.

Aside from restoring the censored content, Agony Unrated will contain a few other goodies like additional sounds in the game & cutscenes, more erotic animations in the background, and both Agony Mode & Succubus Mode unlocked from the beginning with some additional content for those particular game modes. The developers have also apologized for the lackluster technical state of the game at launch and affirmed that they are hard at work at resolving some of the issues that have plagued the game since its release.

With this news and the news of Steam firmly stating their position on censoring offensive games, it seems that we can chalk up another victory for the anti-censorship crowd. We've reached out to the developers of Agony for comment and we'll update this piece when we hear back from them. Agony Unrated will be available on Steam in around three months. In the meantime, you can pick up the censored version of the game on Steam for the PC for $29.99 or your regional equivalent. Console players can get it on the Microsoft Store for the Xbox One and the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation 4 for $39.99 or your regional equivalent.

What do you think of Agony Unrated? Do you think the developers are doing the right thing in releasing a separate unrated edition of the game? Let us know in the comments below!
