Adi Shankar, the creator of the ongoing Castlevania Netflix series, announced today that has acquired the rights to Capcom's character action series, Devil May Cry. In an interview with IGN, he said the series will join his "bootleg multiverse".

He didn't get into specifics about the series, but simply told IGN that he "acquired these (Devil May Cry) rights myself so the jabronis in Hollywood don’t f*** this one up too."

Shankar attributed the plans for a Devil May Cry series to the huge success of the Castlevania Netflix series. He said that the series "really over-performed. It did crazy well. We immediately got greenlit for Season 3. Thanking his fans, he continued on to say "I wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for the fans."

There's currently no announcement on how the series will be distributed and what streaming platforms it will appear on. It might be safe to assume Shankar has a contract with Netflix, so perhaps hold onto your subscription for the time being.

Following his interview with IGN, he posted this teaser image to his Twitter.

In other Devil May Cry news, the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 is set to have microtransactions and possibly a multiplayer component. Check out our coverage of Devil May Cry 5's announcement at E3 2018 here.

Devil May Cry 5 launches 8 March 2019, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Quick Take

A Devil May Cry series in the vein of the Castlevania one sounds like it could be pretty awesome. I've yet to check out the Castlevania series. I've heard nothing but good things about it so I'll be sure to check it out. Shankar is also apparently working on an Assassin's Creed anime, which sounds like it could be pretty cool.

What do you think? Did you enjoy the Castlevania series? Are you looking forward to his take on Devil May Cry? Let us know in the comments!
