Activision, Gamestop, and other retail stores are teaming up together to support Activision’s Call of Duty Endowment program, to help displaced veterans find employment through new merchandising deals to raise money for the charity.
The incentives come from limited edition merchandise tied to Activision’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The two promotional items in question include the Jackal bottle opener for Best Buy and Gamestop and the Limited Edition Dog Tags packaged with the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition at Costco. All purchases of these items at the participating retailers will see a portion of their proceeds be given back to the CODE fund. Activision-Blizzard has also pledged that all of their profits from the limited edition products will be given exclusively to the organization, meaning their cut from these items is given to CODE directly.
Activisions Chief Revenue Officer, Steve Young, noted that “Employment provides much-needed stability for our veterans, particularly as they transition from military to civilian life. We are grateful that GameStop, Costco and Best Buy know the value veterans bring to the workplace and are partnering with us once again. Together, we will honor our nation’s veterans by helping them secure meaningful careers.”
The Call of Duty Endowment, or CODE, program, is a non-profit organization created by Activision-Blizzard in 2009 to help displaced veterans find employment opportunities. Since it’s inception, CODE has helped over 29,000 veterans in re-entering the workforce, with a goal of reaching 50,000 veterans by 2019. Gamestop, Costco, and Best Buy have been involved with the Endowment program for nearly four years now, and their combined profits have helped over 5,000 find high-quality jobs in the workplace.
The Jackal bottle opener is purchasable at the retail price of $6.99 at Best Buy and Gamestop. The bottle openers also come with a code for the “Retro Jackal” in-game calling card for Call of Duty’s multiplayer mode. The Dog Tags are included in all copies of the Legacy Edition at Costco.
