The Ables Preview

From one of the co-creators of the YouTube Channel CinemaSins a new game called The Ables: Freepoint High has not only hit Steam Greenlight but has managed to get Greenlit in only 5 days. This game is based on the world that was created by Jeremy Scott in his novel 'The Ables'.

In this world you start at Freepoint High, a regular high school, except for one thing; You're a superhero. You're a special kind of superhero though, your power makes you what is called an absorber. Just when you start to get the knack of your powers though a mysterious enemy called Cardinal has showed up and it's your job to stop him.

That looks like plenty of powers to absorb as you explore the school!

The Ables: Freepoint High is going to be a metroidvania style game where you traverse the school and gain all kinds of different powers including Pyrokinesis, Telepathy, Super Strength, and even more.

This game is being developed by Qiwi Games, a new company headed by David Gibbons an industry vet that has worked on franchises like Guitar Hero. The musical score is also being provided by YouTuber/Songwriter Ronald Jenkees, with many of the tracks coming from his album Alpha Numeric.

If you want to check out more about the game then you can head to the Qiwi Games blog, or check them out on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube.

Quick Take

The idea of this game sounds fun and charming. It will be interesting to see how well it plays when it is actually released. Coming from such a small company might mean that it gets hidden a bit but hopefully if the game is good then it could get some great interest. I'm all for another fun metroidvania title and I'm always a sucker for a good superhero story. Makes me kind of interested in reading the book.

What do you think of The Ables? Is it a game that you think you'll check out? Have you read the book?
