The website for game developer 5th Cell is teasing a game that will be coming to Android & iOS sometime in early 2018.

5th Cell is a game developer that’s perhaps best known for being the creators of Scribblenauts. While Scribblenauts was certainly popular in its heydey (and has a brand new game coming to the Nintendo Switch), the Washington-based developer has a few other titles in this history like Drawn To LifeHybrid, and Lock’s Quest. Their website has recently been updated to show a splash image of five character silhouettes with the message “Early 2018” along with download buttons for Google Play & iTunes.

An alternate image of the website’s splash screen features a slightly different logo and a date of January 10, 2018.

A quick poke around the site’s source led to the above alternate image (still live on the site at the time of writing) which showed a date of 01/10/18. The only significance I could find for that date was that it was in the midst of CES 2018. It’s possible that this unknown game might have been planned to be revealed during CES but was obviously delayed for one reason or another.

As for what the mystery title could be, there’s not much to go on. Visually, the character design looks similar to that of Lock’s Quest – compare the general look & feel of the heroes on the game’s Steam store page and the similarity is apparent. There’s also the possibility that this is an entirely new series being put together by the folks at 5th Cell. On the other hand, the gameplay of Lock’s Quest – a turn-based strategy RPG – would work perfectly fine on mobile devices.

Whether 5th Cell is developing a Lock’s Quest sequel, a different game in that universe, or something else entirely is still up in the air. In the meantime, keep your eyes on 5th Cell’s website to see what’s in store. We’ve reached out to the developers for comment.

We spoke to a THQ Nordic representative who stated that they own the full IP and Title Rights for Lock’s Quest. Furthermore, they said that they are not involved in this project. This means that the teased game is not related to Lock’s Quest, due to THQ Nordic owning the rights to the IP and not being involved in it. As for what it is, we’ll have to find out. If we find out more, we will update this story again.

What game do you think 5th Cell is teasing on their website? Would you like to see a Lock’s Quest spinoff or sequel? Let us know in the comments below!
