In anticipation for the upcoming Halo: The Masterchief Collection, 343 Industries has announced a brand new eSports league: The Halo Championship Series or HCS for short.

The league was born out of a desire to create a quality experience for players and spectators. Designed to foster the best environment for competitive multiplayer, the league will incorporate existing tournament organizers and become the single sanctioning body for Halo. HCS has teamed up with Twitch, ESL and organizers to create a year of action featuring Halo 2: Anniversary.

The first season will begin shortly after the launch of The Masterchief Collection on November 11 and will run through March of 2015. Teams of four will compete in a series of structured online and in-person LAN events. Winners of these events will receive HCS points and those with the highest point total will be invited to compete at the finals in March of 2015.

More details about the rules and the finals will be announced within the coming weeks. Players will be able to register their teams and begin competing online in the official ESL HCS league.

343 Industries will be sharing more at the Halo: The Masterchief Collection launch invitational tournament which takes place this Saturday, November 8 and Sunday November 9. The world's biggest names in FPS eSports will be there facing off for their share of $50,000 to celebrate the launch of the game. Tune into Twitch.tv/Halo at 2PM PST to catch the action and learn about what's ahead for the league.
