Final Fantasy XV will be developed past its originally-planned stopping point, as reported by Gematsu.

According to the game's director Hajime Tabata, fan requests that the story continue past its planned conclusion have led to Final Fantasy XV getting a bit of an extension to its overall lifespan. The announcement was made during an Active Time Report live stream at Tokyo Game Show 2017. Originally, Episode Ignis was going to be the last piece of DLC for the game.

Episode Ignis is set to launch in December of 2017. It will focus on Noctis' companion Ignis and feature Ignis as a playable character. The fourth Final Fantasy XV DLC was decided to be the last of the set due to the impact that it was going to have on the story as well as its overall tone. However, it will now be followed by additional content.

The additional DLC will flesh out areas of the game's story that don't have enough explanation with what has been experienced by players so far. Tabata aims to further explore characters, their way of life, and the overall setting of the world.

Final Fantasy XV was the fastest-selling game in the franchise's history, according to publisher Square Enix, moving over 5 million units on its first day of sales alone. The game recouped its production costs thanks to the strong sales, allowing the developer to focus manpower on future downloadable content for the game and other projects such as using the game as an environment to test the limits of visual fidelity.

What do you think of the development of Final Fantasy XV DLC continuing into 2018? Do you think the additional DLC being created will be as good as the content that had already been planned? Do you think that developers should extend the life of a game if it proves popular or should they stick to their original schedule? Let us know in the comments below!
