The full details of Doom Eternal Horde Mode have been revealed in the Update 6.66 patch notes along with some changes to "Battlemode" and a batch of new challenges for Slayers to overcome.

Doom Eternal has been doing pretty well -- it brought in nearly half a billion in revenue in its first 9 months alone. Part of the game's popularity is owed to the constant stream of new content such as Horde Mode, a new game mode that was primed to launch today. That new game mode has finally arrived with Update 6.66, and there are some pretty cool additions to the game as well.

How Doom Eternal Horde Mode Works

Doom Eternal Horde Mode should prove to be a pretty fun experience for new and veteran players alike. This new game mode is being made available for free to all players on all platforms, including those who own standalone versions of The Ancient Gods Part One or Part Two.

Each Doom Eternal Horde Mode mission consists of the following rounds:

Arena Round - Arena combat encounter with waves and waves of demons

Blitz Round - Kill as many demons as you can before time runs out

Bonus Coin Round (optional) - Collect as many coins as you can before time runs out

Traversal Round - Navigate a traversal puzzle and collect as many coins as you can before time runs out

Bonus Blitz Round (optional) - A Blitz round but with Super Heavy demons and Onslaught (damage multiplier) power-ups!

As one might expect, players can score points by killing demons. Bigger demons are worth more points, naturally. "Bounty demons" are worth quite a few points as well, but their value decreases over time. You can also boost your score by completing Mission Challenges or picking up coins.

Your Doom Eternal Horde Mode adventure will begin with 3 extra lives, a fully mastered Combat Shotgun, the Chainsaw, and a ton of perks and power-ups. Each completed round will give you a new fully mastered gun, extra lives, and more.

Fancy new game mode aside, there are also some neat Doom Eternal Horde Mode cosmetics that you can earn by completing Milestones. These include the usual mix of skins and other cosmetics. Your efforts will be tracked on a leaderboard, and each difficulty level will get its own leaderboard.

What Else is Coming in Doom Eternal Update 6.66?

The launch of Doom Eternal Horde Mode is certainly the star of the show, but it's not the only new content coming in Doom Eternal Update 6.66. The first major addition is Battlemode 2.0, "the biggest and most important update" to this game mode to date. This update adds hot streaks, leaderboards, and a bunch of new cosmetic rewards for this game mode. There's also a powerful new playable demon called the Dread Knight available for use.

Also arriving in Doom Eternal Update 6.66 are two new Master Levels: Mars Core and The World Spear. As always, you'll gain access to these Master Levels by completing the levels in the campaign.

There are a bunch of other changes arriving in today's update; you can read about all of the new goodies in the Doom Eternal Update 6.66 patch notes (via Reddit). If you've got a hankering to rip and tear this Halloween season, you can buy Doom Eternal for PC and consoles via its official website starting at $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
