Daedalic Entertainment has announced the A Year Of Rain release date for the upcoming PC fantasy RTS. It'll launch in Steam Early Access in November.
A Year Of Rain is designed to be a mixture between old-school RTS action and modern gaming. It takes place in a harsh and brutal world in which there are limited resources thanks to desolate and blighted environments. The world is beset by war, but two friends - a paladin and a noble house's scion - set out to break this cycle and bring peace to their world. You can check out a brand new gameplay trailer for A Year Of Rain below:
The official Steam page for A Year Of Rain promises "classic real-time strategy elements [combined with] a strong focus on hero units". There is a fully-fledged campaign which can either be played single-player or online with a friend. In addition, you'll also be able to play 2v2 skirmishes and a new mode called "Against All Odds". All of these gameplay modes have been optimized for teams of two, according to Daedalic.
In Against All Odds, you'll control two lone heroes facing off against two entire armies (hence the name). The armies will have full command over their units and structures, while the two heroes will just have each other. Daedalic says this is an "innovation in the genre". Elsewhere, it's the classic mixture of base building, resource-gathering, unit recruitment, and skirmishing with other players, all updated with a modern coat of paint.
A Year Of Rain release date for Steam Early Access is set on November 6th. No word yet on other platforms, although given the very PC-style gameplay, it's unlikely we'll be seeing a console release for the game. As ever, we'll keep you posted.
