The guys at Compulsion Games released their usual weekly update on the ongoing development of We Happy Few. The developers speak of the future changes to the game following, among other things, user feedback. In this week's journal, Compulsion Games hints at a new quest system being in development as well as a new "conversation mode".

Following user feedback, the developers deemed the current quest system "not good enough". They accordingly decided to revamp the entire structure of quest/objective/tracking management in order to make it less script-based and more code-based. This is supposed to make the whole system feel more snappy, less bug-prone and more manageable on their side.

After launching the game, we looked back on what worked, what didn’t, what was difficult, etc and thought about ways we could improve our processes and systems. It was clear that our encounter/quest tracking system is just not good enough - there are too many things that can go wrong. The level designers have been doing too much, and solving bugs etc has been far more complicated than it needs to be. This means they have less time to create cool content, which is really what they want to be doing.

The quest system revamp will also see introduced in the game a "conversation mode" for NPC dialogues. This change will not change dramatically alter the way players interface with dialogue too much, though. It's more aimed to avoid interference during conversations (for example, preventing an NPC from hitting you while you're talking to someone else).

The Design team is working to make a stealthy approach more viable in the game. In a future update, hiding in wardrobes will be possible. It will also be possible to lure Wellies in specific rooms by turning on a radio or other machinery so they will go investigate where the sounds came from.

The developers are aiming mid-September for the release of the next update for We happy Few which should include the aforementioned changes and even more.
