Tales of Berseria Announcement

The next game in the long running Tales franchise has been just announced for the PS4 and PC, with Tales of Berseria a "tale of emotion versus reason!"

Tales of Berseria boasts the "first solo female main character" in the franchise. Players will 'assume' control of Velvet, who after a unique experience has had her left hand replaced with the 'special ability' seen in the above trailer. The hand is not the only difference though, as her formerly 'gentle' nature has been pushed aside for a "festering anger and hatred", which is where the emotion versus reasons aspect of the title comes into play.

Players will explore the 'confrontation' that results from Velvet and her emotions, as players either have the choice to follow Velvet's emotions throughout the course of the game, or they could choose reason instead.

Going into 2016, the Tales series has sold over sixteen million units worldwide. The character designers from the previous Tales title, Tales of Zestiria, (Mutsumi Inomata, Kosuke Fujishima, Minoru Iwamoto and Daigo Okumura) return to work on Tales of Beseria. The game's cutscenes as seen in the above trailer features the animation studio Ufotable, who return for the newest Tales title.

Tales of Beseria is set to release in 2016 in Japan for the PS3 and PS4, while the release date for the Western release is unannounced so far, the PS3 version is exclusive to Japan, as the PC version is exclusive to the West. For more information on Tales of Besteria, check out the Tales blog.

Quick Take

Having a exclusive PS3 release in Japan and a PC release exclusive to the West is a striking comparison to how gamers play their 'Tales' games worldwide. Perhaps a digital release for the PS3 version is in the cards, but as of now it looks increasingly unlikely.
