Hacking group OurMine has been making a name for themselves by hacking people like Markiplier and DDOSing Pokemon Go this past weekend. That hasn't stopped them though from seeking even more high profile targets, and this time, they decided to hack Sony President Shuhei Yoshida's Twitter account.

Beginning at around 2AM this morning, OurMine appeared to take over the twitter account and posted on it as per their normal behaviour that it was a security test and that Shuhei Yoshida should contact them to get his account back. Typically with OurMine group this is accompanied with a need to pay them a certain fee to have them release the account.

We aren't linking the tweet they posted at 2AM as it includes a link that OurMine may use to hack users or gain other information. Oddly enough, they acknowledged that the link has been used for that in the past while calling it safe this time.

The last message they posted was just before 7AM, where they appeared to take on more of a trolling tone with putting the hashtag #Xbox4Ever as the only message.

We will keep you up-to-date on what goes on here as the story develops.

Quick Take

OurMine makes a lot of noise of being a security team and not a hacking team, but none of their actions really bear it out. You can see in their own tweets they refer to what they do as hacking and they generally require payment to get accounts back. That's not charging someone for a security test, it's essentially blackmailing the person to pay or we'll mess up your account more. In an era where people are brands more and more, especially on social media, the cost of having someone cause trouble under your name can be incalculable.
