We recently received the word that Hideo Kojima has officially parted ways with Konami after many months of Konami's insistence that he was still a part of the company, and Kojima didn't waste any time moving on to his next project. As was intimated but unconfirmed in the previous article, Kojima will indeed be partnering with Sony to work on a whole new franchise.

No other details were given other than the partnership, but we should all stay tuned to announcements from Kojima and now independent studio, Kojima Productions (no longer a subsidiary of Konami), of which itself we don't know much about, other than it will be led by Kojima, have at least some of the former members of Kojima Productions, and is in the process of hiring. Be sure to check the message Kojima has on the site to gamers everywhere as well.

This announcement may be a bit of a disappointment to some Xbox fans, and possibly PC fans, as the partnership with Playstation would imply that there will likely be some sort of exclusivity deal. That of course has not been announced, nor has it been confirmed. However, seeing the various companies scrambling for as many exclusive franchises as they can, it wouldn't be a surprising prospect.

We know for sure that we can expect the wacky and unique from Kojima sometime in the future. Stay tuned for details to come, and for now Playstation fans can be happy knowing they should have a new franchise to get their hands on in the coming year(s).

Quick Take

Kojima didn't waste any time, and I would bet that this has been in the works since likely before March of this year when we got word that something odd was going on between him and Konami. The only question is, how long has he and other members been working on their new franchise now? How far away are Kojima fans away from a new game from the mastermind?

Of course, as said above, more information should be coming soon. Could Silent Hills be seeing itself reborn in a new series? We're all playing the guessing game at the moment.
