Steam Anime Weekend Sale 2016

The second annual Steam Anime Weekend Sale is currently underway with discounts ranging from 10-90%.

Fans of fighting games can grab every single Guilty Gear or Blazblue title on the store at a discount as well as some of the NARUTO Shippuden Ultimate Ninja STORM titles.

Visual novel enthusiasts as well as fans of more story-heavy games have tons of picks to choose from such as Danganronpa: Trigger Happy HavocSakura Swim Cluband the premier bird dating simulator Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star.

JRPGs both new and old are understandably well-represented. Classic JRPG DISGAEA is discounted 20%. The recently-released (though moderately received, going by the Mixed Steam reviews) Tales of Symphonia is 50% off, and the Hyperdimension Neptunia games available on Steam are discounted 40%-70%.

Lastly, some classic video games are up for grabs at a discounted price in the Steam Anime Weekend Sale. The first six Mega Man games are available in the Mega Man Legacy Collection for 33% off. and the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classic Pack 5 will get you some of the original Phantasy Star RPGs at a 66% discount.

The sale includes 260 titles under the Anime category on Steam. There are, however, some strange aberrations such as the Dark Souls III Deluxe Edition + Steam Controller Bundle being listed in the tag. There's also a distinct lack of streaming video in the anime category being on sale this weekend. All of the NARUTO movies on Steam are still are regular price for streaming. You can nonetheless buy the videos permanently at a discounted price.

The 2016 Steam Anime Weekend will end on Monday at 10AM Pacific Time.

Quick Take

Anime games are right up there with pixel platformers in terms of wildly varying quality, but that's not to say there aren't some really standout titles. I'm personally fond of Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale, Long Live The Queenand the Guilty Gear Games. Be forewarned that some of the Guilty Gear ports (such as that of Isuka) aren't really done properly for PCs; buyer beware, as always.

Are there any particular standout titles that you feel would be good to pick up during the Steam Anime Weekend Sale? Do you feel the discounts being offered are a good value, or do you think it would be better to wait for the forthcoming Steam Summer Sale? Let us know in the comments below!
