Pillars of Eternity The White March

After suffering a slight delay last month, Pillars of Eternity White March Part 2 is set to come out on Tuesday 16th of February 2016. The expansion to the colossal RPG includes soulbound weapons which get stronger over time, a higher level cap, new areas to explore, and new companions to annoy. One such companion is Maneha, an Aumaua Barbarian revealed in an exclusive video from PCGamesN. She's very blue. Or maybe green. I don't know, let's not get into another 'what color is this dress' situation.

Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive also recently announced a major update alongside the expansion’s release. In what is being called Version 3.0, visitors now show up at the castle as you listen to their plight from your throne in scenes reminiscent of Dragon Age: Inquisition or Obsidian's own Neverwinter Nights 2, and a new questline challenges your claim to the stronghold. Optional difficulty settings have been added which inflict injuries on characters who get knocked out, as well as a 'Story Time' mode that dials down combat difficulty and allows the pansy player, to focus their attentions elsewhere. For more information on these features and others, check out Obsidian’s video below. Version 3.0 is available to all Pillars of Eternity owners, regardless of whether they have the expansion or not.

Even with the expansion and update it seems we have not seen the last of Pillars of Eternity. Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart stated ‘We’re committed to expanding and supporting the Pillars of Eternity experience. We have many stories to tell in this world and this has only been the first one.’

Pillars of Eternity is an isometric RPG and spiritual successor of Baldur’s Gate. It raised nearly 4 million dollars from over 70,000 Kickstarter backers and remains one of the major successes of the platform, garnering enormous praise from critics and user reviews alike. TechRaptor has its own review too.

Quick Take

Another developer doing right by their fans. Last week it was Harebrained Schemes with Shadowrun: Hong Kong, this week it’s Obsidian with Pillars of Eternity. If this keeps up, we should be frolicking in our newly formed gaming paradise in no time. I’ll race you to the Fountain of Mountain Dew.
