Nvidia released a dark and dreary trailer today for their official mod of Fallout 4, "Vault 1080."

Nvidia and Light Speed Studio are releasing a full add-on level in the form of a mod for Fallout 4. The free mod will be available starting September 2, 2016, during PAX West in Seattle. It offers an hour of gameplay in a horror-tinged setting with a bleak atmosphere, and strong rays of light to show off Nvidia graphics' capabilities. The mod promises "velvety and realistic" shadows with volumetric lighting not shown in the standard game. The mod will be comparable in size to the other vaults found in Fallout 4.

In Vault 1080, players will discover the occupants have embraced darkness and sickness in order to survive. The blog hints at the possibility the whole set up may be founded on lies (as is the case with many vaults in the Fallout series,) and ends telling the player they will choose whether the occupants of Vault 1080 deserve salvation.

As the name suggests the trailer gives a small glimpse at the high-end visuals optimized for Nvidia cards. There is no word yet on if the mod will work for AMD graphics cards. There is also no mention of the mod coming to Xbox One or to Playstation4 (whenever that does get mod support, which Bethesda still has yet to say).

Think the end of the world can't get any worse? Then NVIDIA's high-quality Fallout 4 mod has some bad news - turns out that adding super-advanced lighting and shadows to a thermonuclear Wasteland just makes it scarier, moodier, and more dangerous than ever.

More information can be found on Nvidia's official blog.

TechRaptor's Alex Santa Maria gave Fallout 4 a score of 8/10 for its rewarding sense of exploration, only held back by its simplistic conversation options and looping quests.  "A largely iterative game, Fallout 4 suffers from a limited dialogue system and procedurally generated content, but still excels at creating a world that is fun and rewarding to explore." said Santa Maria.

Will you be trying Vault 1080 when it release September 9th? What do you think the story of the mod will be? Should AMD make their own mod level? What do you think of this type of work as promotional tie-ins? Let us know in the comments below!
