With the highly anticipated release of Hello Games' space sandbox No Man's Sky coming out in a little over a week, the hype is slowly reaching critical mass. The promise of a vast universe to explore is most definitely an alluring one, and a small group of fans have set up an unofficial online tool to help you keep track of where you've been.
This tool in NMS Tracker and allows you to keep a logbook of sorts which is supposed to make your journey a little more pleasant by allowing you to track the planets you've been to and give these planets tags so you can easily see what resource can be found on what planet.
For example, if a planet has water and there are some materials that you can get only in watery planets, you can tag that planet with the word 'water'. The next time you need to harvest resources on a watery planet, you can just search for this tag and find all the planets that you've previously tagged with that name.
Once the game has been released and you've created an account on the website, your account will be able to share discovered planets on your account for everyone to see. All the planets you have discovered and tagged will be visible to the general public. Other users can post comments on your discoveries as well. You will also be able to follow up to 50 other players so you can keep track of their journeys.
NMS Tracker also has a Live Discovery Page that shows you a continuous stream of planets discovered by the NMS community, allowing you to easily find planets that have resources you need.
This tool is open to anyone free of charge and looks like it'll be a tool that budding space cartographers won't be able to live without.
No Man's Sky is scheduled to release on August 9 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
