Many games seek to copy the Dark Souls formula now, and Team Ninja, developers of the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series, introduced Nioh as their own version. If you missed your chance to try the alpha demo, which was available from late April to early May, you'll have another chance soon.

Publisher Koei Tecmo has announced that Nioh will be getting a beta demo that will become available sometime in August. While it hasn't been said what exactly will be in the demo, it does appear that it will be different than the alpha demo. Koei Tecmo also gave out some information about the alpha demo, including that 850,000 players downloaded and played the demo. They also gave a list of things they are going to change for the full game. Among these changes includes adding a tutorial to better explain the game, adding hints to help lead to the bosses, and removing durability from weapons.

A new trailer for Nioh was shown at E3 this year and it showed off some new enemies, environments, weapons, and a little bit more of the powers that protagonist William is able to use.

Nioh has had a troubled development cycle, and originally was announced in 2004 under the name Oni and was planned to be a movie tie-in title to a film of the same name. Later it was renamed Nioh and was announced to be getting a 2006 release date as a PlayStation 3 exclusive with trailers shown at both E3 2005 and the 2006 Tokyo Game Show. Yet it missed its release date, and Koei Tecmo mostly kept insisting it was being worked on without showing anything. Finally, it was re-announced at the 2015 Tokyo Game Show in the form it's seen in today.
