Suikoden 2.5

Suikoden 2.5 is an unofficial fan-made sequel of the second chapter of the classic JRPG saga by Konami. It is set after the events of the game and it promises to give some insight on many of the characters while following the official timeline as close as possible, making it a link between the second and third Suikoden.

DISCLAIMER: Some mild spoilers of Suikoden 1 and 2 following

Suikoden 2.5 is divided in 5 chapters and the first one came out this week. Chapter one will focus on Viktor and Flik, two characters that the fans of the franchise know very well. We'll follow them as they strive to cope with their problems. Flik is still haunted by the ghosts of the past. He can't forgive himself for what happened to Odessa in the first Suikoden. Viktor, at the same time, wonders if he really managed to put an end to the menace of Neclord.

Many old acquaintances of those who played the original game will be present in Suikoden 2.5. Captain Gengen, Kinninson and Shiro will be playable in the first chapter and many more will be featured. The second chapter is scheduled for next year and will feature Jowy. In particular, it will feature the backstory of his uprising from peasant to king of the Highlands, with Luca Blight playing a major role in it. Riou and Nanami will be present in this sequel, but only as support character since, by the author of the game's words "we already know their story".

This fan-made project is yet another proof that the fans of the Suikoden saga are up and running with their passion despite Konami distancing itself from the franchise. We have seen in the past years groups of gamers shout out to Konami and Sony to consider putting another Suikoden in te works and localize in the west the many games that today are only available in Japan. The existence of the Suikoden Revival Movement is proof that the public want to see more of Suikoden.

Konami didn't give any statement about their opinion on this project but the creator confirmed that it has not ben endorsed nor condemned by Konami by the time of writing.

Suikoden 2 is my own favourite game of all time so I'm particularly excited about this project and I can't wait to see the next chapters. You can download Suikoden 2.5 for free on the official site and it's available on PC only.
