The Binding of Isaac Co-Creator Edmund McMillen has revealed that the upcoming turn-based puzzle game The Legend of Bum-bo will release sometime this year. Speaking in a Tumblr post, McMillen gave some more details on the game, and teased the possible link to The Binding of Isaac:

"Most may notice Bum-bo seems to have a lot of ties to the binding of isaac. i like to call it a prequel, but what i mean by that outside of the obvious themes isnt something i can really explain without spoiling too much, but i can assure you if you enjoyed isaac and also like turn based combat and puzzle games, the legend of bum-bo should be right up your alley."
Alongside the reveal of the release window, a trailer was also released, showing the game's familiar art-style and a glimpse at the turn-based combat. There are indeed many similarities to the team's previous game, with players collecting glyphs which grants a host of imaginative offensive and defensive abilities, from fish hooks to a giant Mom's leg. It all plays out using a quirky paper-crafted aesthetic, peppered with the now trademark level of gore and wackiness.

The Legend of Bum-bo is being developed by Ed McMillen and James id and just like The Binding of Isaac features the musical stylings of Ridiculon. When it launches later this year it will come to IOS and Steam, with a Nintendo Switch version planned for sometime in 2019. No details on other console releases were given so stay tuned for future updates.

Things are definitely looking promising for the game, especially since it seems to be replicating much of what made The Binding of Isaac great (read our review here).
