AltspaceVR - Preview

AltspaceVR, an application allowing for virtual meetups, has just launched their integration into Slack, a popular team messaging tool. This integration will allow teams to quickly get together in a virtual meeting space to close the gap of communication somewhat.

After announcing the VR Call application for Android CEO Eric Romo quickly figured out that they were using the app to create a chat room and then would post the link to the room in Slack. Romo was very proud of the VR Call app when he spoke about it at SVVR 2016 explaining the following:

If you haven’t had the experience of connecting with loved ones, who might be thousands of miles away, in VR, you should do it, That sense of physical space, that the person you love is standing right there in front of you, when you [only] get to see them once a year… is something that you will never forget. And this is why we think a billion people will use VR.

Slack - AltspaceVR

This integration was created to cut out the middle man so that you could use the Slack command /vrcall to create a chat room and link that everyone can join into. Anyone who has AltspaceVR installed on their computer, android device, or VR HMD will then be able to join in the conversation. For those who don't own a VR device or Android phone, you're still able to use AltspaceVR in 2D desktop mode allowing you to still interact with other friends, family, and colleagues.

If you want to download AltspaceVR for free then you can go to their official website and sign up for a free account. Adding this Slack integration is extremely easy as well, you can do it by following this link and clicking "Add to Slack".

What do you think of Slack getting AltspaceVR integration? Are you going to try out a VR call? Let us know below.
