Ever since its release, the Origin client has had the same default theme. Unlike its big brother Steam, it also has an absence of custom, user-made themes.

That looks like it's about to change, however, as EA has added a new theme in the client's beta build. NEOGAF user, SmartWaffles posted the new theme today on the NEOGAF forums. The new theme has a very minimalistic look to it, which seems to be popular nowadays.  Users are able to use the theme by opting into the client's optional beta build.

Origin has gotten a lot of hate from users, mostly for not being Steam. The client is made by EA which could also be the reason for the hate as the name still carries a sour taste for some gamers. After all, EA did manage to make the Consumerist's "Worst Company in America" for two years in a row in 2012 and 2013.

While many users seem to have a positive outlook towards the theme, many compare it to GOG Galaxy and Spotify. Apart from the compliments, some people are complaining that most Origin updates are only aesthetic. Many are also comparing Steam's features to Origin's lack thereof.

Of course, even though some people like the new theme, there are many who won't. The thing about changing the look of something is that a lot of people don't like change. Just take a look at all the articles regarding Facebook's changes and how people hate it! Here is one, and another, and another. You get the point.

Some people, however, have been unable to get the new theme when opting in. Some are claiming that the client either isn't updating, or the theme doesn't exist. One Reddit user by the name of Winterbliss, claims that "It's been pulled due to a bug with the ingame overlay." No official update from EA about the update has been released as of now. We have reached out to EA for comment and will update as we receive more information.
