Labeled the 50 Fact Extravaganza, the latest Nintendo Direct laid out 50 things for us to expect from the new Wii U. We'll go through each and every one of them, from the big surprises to the one-sentence stuff, and lay out what they mean, or you can watch the direct yourself! From Mewtwo to Stage Building, all the information you need is here!

50 Super Smash Bros. Facts

1. Default Fighter Line Up

Forty characters are available to choose from the first time you start up the game, and the narrator (the announcer from the game) quickly mentioned the characters move sets will be identical to their 3ds counterparts, so the strategies you've tailored to your main fighter are safe to use in the Wii U version.

2. Resolution

Boasting the highest resolution in the series history, the Wii U version's 1920 x 1080 resolution is, as should be expected, significantly higher than the 3ds's 400 x 240 resolution screen.

3. 8 Player Smash

Twice the maximum smash as before, the Wii U will support a full 8 players simultaneously. Only certain stages will support this mode, likely to keep things under control, but just as likely to keep your system's processor from bursting into flames, and is restricted to local multiplayer only.

4. Larger StagesBig Stage copy

The 8 player smash mode, requiring more space for the fighters to move around, means fighting with that many people would be a nightmare on the 3ds's comparatively tiny screen. Your living room tv on the other hand is expansive enough. To make use of the extra space, the console counterpart will feature expanded stages for the 8 player matches. The probability of these stages appearing in online multiplayer is "a bit lower than normal."

 5. Danger Zone

To mix up the 8 player matches, "Danger Zones" have been added, which inflict damage when touched and result in instant KO's of a fighter over 100% damage. Featuring these Danger Zone areas, "The Great Cave Offensive" (based on the underground labyrinth in Kirby Super Star) had hot lava spots you could throw opponents into. The announcer also mentions treasure chests appearing, but doesn't go into detail on what they do.

6. Dual-Plane Battling

Using a stage based on Donkey Kong Country Returns ( called Jungle Hijinks), the stage features a foreground and background area for fighting. Players take damage if they attempt to jump between planes too frequently. Also, to account for the width of the rear plane, fighters fly farther when hit there.

7. Number of Stages

The Wii U version features more stages than the 3ds version, and have differing designs.

8. Miiverse StageMiiverse copy

Gathering up messages about the various fighters, those posts will appear when fighting on this stage for whichever fighter was chosen for that match.

 9. Palutena's Guidance

Like the codex messages in Brawl, selecting Pit's down taunt on Palutena's stage will have Pit, Palutena and Viridi converse about the fighters, and the possibility of "special guests". The same can be done for the Star Fox teams cockpit conversations on the Star Fox levels.

10. Metal Face

Selecting Gaur Plains at night will summon the Xenoblade villian Metal Face to attack the stage and comment on the battle. The players can team up and defeat him as well.

11. RidleyRIdley 2 copy

With my condolences to those who wanted him as a playable fighter, Ridley fights on Pyrosphere, and if you deal enough damage he will fight by your side (I guess he respects you or something?) If Ridley consumes enough energy, he upgrades to meta Ridley. Defeating Ridley, even if he's fighting on your side, earns you a point for the final score. Other creatures from the Metroid-verse will also appear on the stage and are useable by fighters.

12. Coin Battles

Adding to the stock and time battles, coin battles are a "relatively casual" way of playing where the winner is decided based on how many coins they collected from fallen opponents

13. Stamina Battles

Basically a reverse version of a regular match. Instead of building damage up, you start with a number of health and die when that gets lowered to zero. Not sure why this was in the Direct, as this isn't anything new to Smash, but nonetheless it's good to have options.

14. Special Smashes

Again, these have been in the series since its inception, but a nice reminder for the super competitive crowd that you can have a fun, goofy time with smash. Metal mode, giant mode, low gravity, etc. are all there. These matches won't affect your records.

15. Item Frequency

Like before, you can adjust the frequency of items that drop, from as high as, well, high, to as low as never. You can also pick which items will and won't show up in matches.

16. My MusicMy Music copy

A mode that lets you select the frequency that certain songs play. (The clear choice is to turn "Super Mario Galaxy" all the way up and everything else down, clearly.)

17. Menu Music

My Music now applies to menu music as well.

18. Tons of Music

So much music it's "not even comparable!" Boasting "more music than you will find in any other fighting game", almost all songs in the 3ds version will be in the Wii U version as well.

19. Composers

A plethora of composers, new and returning, have worked on this game.

20. CDsCDs copy

CDs add songs to your library, and can be obtained in fights as well as completing certain challenges.

21. Challenges

Completing these specified tasks brings rewards to the player (such as the aforementioned CDs) and completing challenges unlocks new ones.

22. Classic

Unlike the 3ds version of Classic mode, you advance based on skill rather than choice of path. Random events, rivals and challengers, further challenge the player. Like the 3ds version, greater difficulty means greater rewards. Classic mode can also be played by two players.

23. Clear Trophies

Clearing Classic Mode starts a short movie for whichever fighter you played as.

24. All-Star ModeAll Star Mode copy

Fighting with limited healing items and rest areas, you fight all the characters in reverse chronological order, starting with the most recently created and ending with the veterans of the gaming industry. All-Star Mode is also features a two player option.

25. Event Mode

Event mode features themed battles, where you fight under certain circumstances. Two player specific event battles are also available.

26. Smash TourSmash Tour copy

Designed like a board game, you spin a wheel to advance the map, using items to help. The mode supports 4 players and use Miis as your pieces. Advancing the board collects you fighters to use in battle. When Miis land on the same space, the fighters face off. Fighters are used in the order acquired, and winning allows you to steal someones fighter. In the final battle, players are enhanced by all the power ups they've collected up to that point. The final battle is a stock battle, with the stock determined by the fighters you've collected.

27. Target Blast

Smash Bros Angry Birds essentially. You're given a bomb with a timer, smash it to power up its explosion and launch it towards various targets. Different from the 3ds version, the second bomb is bigger and weighs more, requiring a different approach than the first. 3 different stages to try, and your score affects your "Global Smash Power".

28. Group Stadium

Multiplayer mode for the stadium, multi-man smash can be played by 4 players, two-player co-op Home Run Contests (or four if you take turns), and four-player target blast.

29. Special OrdersMaster Orders copy

Challenges by the big bads of the series Master Hand and Crazy Hand. You advance by defeating battles based on the order ticket you get. In Master Orders, your rewards are based on difficulty level, and tickets are only used once. For Crazy Orders, it costs gold just to enter, then you fight battles, with each harder than the last. Once you decide, you can finish by fighting Crazy Hand. If you win, you keep all your rewards, lose and get nothing.

30. Master Fortress

In the 3ds version of classic mode, players fought against a new enemy called Master Core, which took various forms the fighter would face. For the bigger screen, Master Core takes a bigger form in Master Fortress. The fortress form will only appear on higher intensity levels.

31. Controllers

Just a simple summary of the many controller options this game has. Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuck, Wii U Gamepad, Classic Controller, Classic Controller Pro, Wii U Controller Pro, Nintendo Gamecube Controller, and even the 3ds! Each controllers button setting can be customized.

32. Gamecube Controller Adapter

Showing off A fancy Smash themed Gamecube controller, Smash will allow players to play with the Gamecube controller through a usb adapter. Nintendo recently clarified that this usb adapter only works for Smash Bros.

33. Using the Nintendo 3ds as a Controller

Choosing 3ds on the main menu will let you play the game with a 3ds controller.

34. Connecting to Nintendo 3ds

You can bring your customized fighter to the Wii U version, this includes Mii fighters various clothing.

35. Tons of Trophies

More trophies than ever before! As the 3ds version held many trophies from portable games, the console version features many trophies from console games. There are more trophies on Wii U than on 3ds.

36. Final Smash Trophies

Surviving All-Star Mode awards you a Final Smash trophy of whichever fighter you selected.

37. Trophy Box

Trophies are sorted into various groups such as Wind Waker, Wii Fit Plus/U, etc. The completionist in me is drooling.

38. Photo Studio

Set up trophies to pose like a diorama, and edit them with effects and paint.

39. Trophy Rush

Described as the best way to get trophies, trophy rush requires building combos to start the Trophy Rush, where various boxes of coins and trophies fall to break and collect what's inside.  The mode allows for two-player co-op or competition.

40. Masterpieces

Masterpieces copy

Essentially a selection of demos from early video game mascots, to advertise their full counterparts on the eShop. Masterpieces features a  selection of cutdown versions of several charters original games. Some games come with pre-installed save data. The game ends when the time is up.If you liked what you played, you can select a link to the eShop to buy it.

41. Amiibo

Scan your Amiibo into the game, and let them fight to become stronger and smarter. You can help this process by giving them new equipment. You can fight them, alongside them, or have Amiibo fight each other. Amiibo become stronger when visiting another console, and bring "presents" from the battles they fought in.

42. Internet Connection

Nintendo recommends using the Wii LAN Adapter for the Wii U to have a steady internet connection during a match if you don't have a stable wifi connection.

On the main Menu, a scrolling information bar will show recent topics of discussion and new information. You can also see a list of past notifications.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U allows two players to play online form the same console. A rarer feature than one might think, the majority of online multiplayer games require each player has their own console.

A mode that lets you host your own tourneys. You set the format, star/end date, victory conditions, etc.  It will take "a little while" before the feature can be implemented.

The Gamepad can be used to display the match, or be used to show the damage information of each fighter.

48. Paint

After lining up that perfect shot of an in-game still, use the stylus to draw on the photo. Following a future game update, players can share their photos online and send to friends.

49. Voice Chat

Use the built-in mic on the GamePad to voice chat with others. To keep a secure connection (and also to quell the inevitable storm of cursing no doubt) Voice Chat is disabled during actual battles, but players can speak before and after matches.

50. Stage BuilderStage Build copy

Build stages completely from your imagination. Create two points to create a straight line between them, or press and hold to create free-hand. You can add Danger Zones, traps and hazards. There are five themes to choose, and you can select any music from the stage songs list.

51. Sharing

The 51st fact in the 50 fact extravaganza, and another function to be added "when it's ready." The game is planned to allow players to share photos, replays, Mii fighters, and custom stages with friends or online.

Others

A list of the many features shared between the two versions of the game. Safe to say, the only modes not shared are the ones not stated. Since the majority of these modes were things like Team Battles, tips, stats, and even just regular old smash battles, there isn't much to write about.

52. Movies

But Wait, There's More! Introduced with owser Jr.'s intro cinematic, the Wii U version includes all "Joins the Battle" movies for the new fighters. All cinematics are in High Definition.

53. Sound testSoundtrack CD copy

Anyone who buys both versions of the game and registers with Club Nintendo will receive Physical Soundtrack CDs. The two-disc set features both 3ds music (red disc) and Wii U music (blue disc). The offer is only available for a limited time.

54. Mewtwo is on the Way

MewTwo

The downloadable fighter is only available to those who bought both versions of the game as a free download. As of now, Mewtwo is still in development, but is scheduled for completion spring of 2015.
